Drop-in workshops
In 2024 I had a fantastic time facilitating drop-in workshops at Between the Tides (Redcar) and Cleveland Pride (Saltburn). Working with families, adults and children in the local community was a great experience and it really cemented that it is something that I want to continue to do.
The Giant Project
Alongside these two events, I also had a really interesting opportunity to work with 4 care homes in Guisborough. With the residents, using mixed media collage, a series of 5 images were produced for Guisborough Arts ‘Giant’ project. It was so lovely to see the residents happy with what they achieved and so many of them tried something new or recalled a love of art as a child. As the images we created all focused around the local area (Roseberry Topping, Gisborough Priory, Redcar seafront, Marske beach & Saltburn Cliff Lift) they often told stories or shared memories of the places.
Accessibility was so important for this project, so I had to consider how I could break it down into manageable pieces and suitable materials for the residents. I was so proud of what they all achieved together and the final images looked fantastic. We used tissue paper, paint (applied with brushes and sponges), pencil crayons and chunky water pencil crayons.
What’s happening in 2025…
A few weeks ago I ran a paper lantern workshop up in Sunderland at Pavilion (Keel Square), working with children and families. It coincided with the beautiful Stellar Creates light installation ‘The Stars Come Out at Night’ and the lanterns reflected it’s shape and starry pattern.
I’m working at my first big event this coming weekend in Saltburn at the lovely Valley Of Light, which I am really looking forward too. Plus this summer, I will be running a workshop that I have been commissioned for, as part of the Cross the Tees Festival. I’m looking forward to more workshops and projects as the year progresses – if you are interested in working with me, please do get in touch.
I will also be running my own workshop next month, plant pot painting at the Brown Box in Loftus. A lovely cosy café and gift shop, situated in the marketplace. The plant pots will have a springtime theme and participants will be guided right through the process to make the most of their designs.
